Beware of Angry 3rd Graders

Filed under Daily Babble, News, Events, Occasions @ 10:47pm

After I’ve read the 3 books about martyr Rachel Scott and the Columbine High School Massacre that happened in 1999, hearing news about teenagers involved in illegal possession of firearms and school shootings no longer shocked me. But when I watched the news this morning about 3rd Graders in Waycross, Georgia who plotted to knock out, handcuff and stab their teacher last Friday, I was seriously alarmed.

Those kids ages 8 to 10 brought a paperweight, a steak knife, and a handcuff to school with a plot to attack their teacher. Apparently, they got mad after the teacher punished one of their classmates. They said the plot was organized enough that the students each had a role in it such as covering the classroom windows and cleaning up the mess. Their “plan” was unraveled when another student reported that a classmate had a knife in her backpack.

While “experts” believe that the children were just being playful and would not actually have followed through with it, I on the other hand (an ordinary individual, tsss!) find the news alarming. Don’t you? I mean, if they wanted to get back at their teacher, they should have just thought of a less cruel revenge. Maybe spread a nasty rumor or make fun of the teacher when she’s not looking. Coz that’s what my classmate did when we were in high school. Lolz.

I hope those kids realize the gravity of what they could have done — if they were actually serious about it. 8, 9, and 10 are such young ages. When I was their age all my classmates and I could think about was the bell finally ringing for recess so we can get on with our Patintero tournament! The cruelest thing I’ve witnessed in school then was when two of my classmates screamed foul words at each other and didn’t speak for a whole year. Life was simpler then. Heh. :p

Bohol Itinerary

I’ve been asked a few times by some friends to share the itinerary of our Bohol trip last month. I intended to blog about it earlier but, I don’t know, I was too occupied — lazy, really — to do it. I did share some Bohol photos though if you missed that one!

This summer, most office people sure are itching to get off their boring chairs to enjoy the sand and sun for a change (I know I am), and Bohol is probably one of the most talked-about island paradise destinations in the Philippines. Our trip to Bohol was planned by my friend, Van (we didn’t sign up for some package tour). That girl has been to so many places and nature trips that you just know you’ve got nothing to worry about when she’s around. She did a great job planning our itinerary (Thanks, Van!). Anyway, if you’re looking for an inexpensive vacation, our Bohol experience might be helpful.

We were in Bohol from March 6 to 10, but technically we only stayed there for 3 days.

Day One

We arrived in Tagbilaran City in the morning of March 6. Outside the airport, we talked to a driver of one of the cars for hire there to drive us to Alona Beach in Panglao Island. The transfer cost us PhP 400. We asked the driver to bring us to Bohol Divers Resort where we got the cheapest room in the place (only PhP 600 per night). We didn’t schedule anything big on our first day so we just walked around and explored the resort and the rest of Alona Beach. There’s a bunch of restaurants and stores there too so food is not going to be a problem. Although I must mention that the meals are a bit pricey.
