As I’m typing this it’s exactly 20 minutes before the clock strikes twelve. My phone keeps beeping as text greetings from friends and acquaintances arrive every few minutes. I hear firecrackers outside and the Christmas instrumental songs that come with my mom’s Christmas lights displayed outside our window. Funny thing is, we’re no longer expecting Noche Buena as we’ve all eaten our dinner two hours ago. This family is not fit to wait a few more hours when the food is hot and all ready on the table!

Deej is finally out of the hospital after being confined for a week. He’s now recuperating at home with his family. I’m relieved that he’s doing OK, and that he seems to really like the Christmas present I gave him. Hehe.

I only got four presents so far but I don’t mind. I guess as one grows older, one understands the true meaning of the saying, “It’s better to give than to receive.” (Acts 20). My mom and I just finished wrapping a bunch of gifts for my little cousins, nephews, nieces, godsons and goddaughters in Pampanga. We’re driving there tomorrow to surprise them. The gifts are not that fancy, but I know that the sight of Christmas presents covered in Christmas-themed gift wrappers is precious in the eyes of the little ones. On the other hand, seeing the children all excited to open their presents is precious in the eyes of a grownup. Oh yeah, I’m a grownup now. Lol.

Christmas Presents

So guess what? My mom’s already asleep, and my dad tipsy from the booze he’s been drinking all night. My brothers are talking loudly about some anime or movie or something that they both find cool, while I’m seated in front of my laptop in my room typing whatever comes to mind. Not your typical Christmas eve setting, huh?

True. But you know what? This is probably the best Christmas I’ve ever experienced. Maybe not counting the past fun Christmases my mom was telling me about that I was too young to remember. My face may not be ecstatic right now but I’m really very happy to be spending Christmas eve with my parents and brothers. :)

It’s 12 MN. Happy Christmas everyone!
