If my friend, Anna Grace, hadn’t invited me last week to join her to the Christina Aguilera Back to Basics concert, I wouldn’t even know there was going to be a Christina Aguilera concert here in Manila. Yes, I’m that out of touch.
The concert was held last night (July 6) at the Fort Bonifacio Open Field in Taguig. Anna Grace and I got there pretty early. We were seated by 7:00 PM, but it wasn’t until 8:45 PM when Christina finally stepped on stage. But we didn’t mind the wait. Kris Lawrence (of Search for the Star in a Million) was there to grace the audience with a few songs. I adore his chinky eyes and the way he dances!
I was thrilled to be there at the Christina Aguilera concert, but the truth is, I’m not that familiar with her songs! I loved her when I was in high school though. I even had a copy of her first album. But I hardly know her new songs — I got over my girl/boyband craze immediately after I graduated high school. Haha
Anna Grace and I kept wishing under our breaths for Christina to sing her songs from her first album. Songs like I Turn To You, Genie in a Bottle, and Reflection! lol. But she didn’t. She sang Come On Over and What a Girl Wants at least but not in their original versions anymore. Among her songs released after her first album I’m only familiar with Beautiful, Dirrty, Fighter, and Lady Marmalade. There were a few dull moments in the concert (She lacked audience interaction, really) but she managed to liven the crowd toward the end.
I think Christina Aguilera is great. I even admire her for having been able to “keep it together” all these years (as opposed to Britney Spears who has kind of lost it — not that I was ever a fan) but I have to say her concert last night was really bitin! It ran for only about 1 hour and 15 minutes. We were just starting to have fun and before we knew it — they were clearing out the stage! Seriously?!
Boy, do I feel bad for the folks who paid Php 7,000 for a ticket. I guess the “More! More!” shouts doesn’t really work for international artists. Gary V. falls for that every time. lol.
Apparently, Christina’s been on a world tour since November last year. Mels also has an entry about her concert in Shanghai, China right before she flew to Manila. You really have to give her credit for pushing through with her world tour even while she’s pregnant. I mean, look at this list:
