My birthday this year was nothing spectacular. I woke up and decided not to come to work (thought I owed myself a break); I stayed online for a few hours; I went to a dental clinic to ask the dentist a few questions about my tooth (again!!); I had my laptop repaired at the Toshiba service center (finally!!); and I had dinner with 3 special people at Powerplant, Rockwell. It sounds like a regular day, doesn’t it? :D

One thing I think you should know about me is I don’t have a problem spending my birthday the most ordinary way. I might be expecting a little something from the handful of people closest to me, but other than that, I really don’t care about the others. I don’t mind having this (imaginary) long list of friends who forgot to associate January 29th with me. Or the fact that nobody at my new office knew it was my birthday (except, Romzkee, who later found out about it. LOL). Or that my other friends who supposedly belong to the “inner circle friendship category” just sent a greeting through text message or e-mail and were done with it. — I know this may seem like a sarcasm, but really I don’t mind at all. :) What I’m trying to point out is I find it really immature when somebody makes a big deal out of the fact that some of his/her friends forgot to greet him/her on his birthday; or that his/her friends didn’t do something special for him/her (say, organize a surprise party?); or he/she didn’t receive more nice presents. That’s just taking it too damn personal. These kinds of expectation are just for kids. Isn’t it understandable that some people forget? Are busy with other things? Or just plain broke or indifferent? That’s just how life is. I believe it’s mostly up to the person to decide how to make his or her day special, not the people around. The Truman Show-kind of life is unlikely to happen, my friend.

I’m saying this because I’ve been accused of being indifferent toward someone’s birthday in the past. I felt really guilty about it at first, but then I also thought, there’s really not much I can do about it at that time. The events were out of my control. Even so, I had to put up with that awkward situation.

Anyway, like I said, it’s up to the celebrant to decide how to make his/her day special. Yes, my birthday seemed like an ordinary day, but I didn’t find it non-special at all. I had a late celebration with Deej, Che-che, and my older brothers last night. I claimed my free 2-dozen Krispy Kreme donuts at their The Fort branch, ordered an 18-inch Yellow Cab Manhattan Meatlovers pizza to go, and had a sumptuous dinner with them at home. It was nothing big but, nevertheless, I enjoyed it.

I hope you enjoy the food as much as we did! LOL.

Yum! Ooooh..

It's Krispy Kreme Time! Jec: 'I'm a Manhattan Meatlover!'

Deej: 'My poor sweet tooth!' Joni: 'This is the best birthday everrr!'

HAPPY 19th BIRTHDAY TO ME! :)
